ACT Preparation Program Curriculum

PRE-WORK: Diagnostic Test & Personalized Study Plan

Before starting the program, you will take an ACT Diagnostic Test to assess your initial abilities in each section.

The test results will be used to create a personalized study strategy that is efficient and aligned with your target score.

This stage equips you with a foundational understanding of:

  • The ACT structure and scoring system

  • Question types in English, Math, Reading, and Science

  • The specific format of the Essay (Writing Test)

The goal is to help participants understand the direction and challenges of each section from the very beginning.

This session focuses on deepening subject knowledge for each ACT section:

  • English: grammar rules, punctuation, rhetorical skills

  • Math: algebra, coordinate geometry, trigonometry

  • Reading: identifying main ideas, making inferences, analyzing tone

  • Science: data interpretation, experimental design, scientific reasoning

The material is delivered step by step, with extensive practice using official ACT-style questions.

Students will complete the full scope of ACT content. We use:

  • Practice modules based on real ACT questions

  • A section-by-section approach to help students focus effectively

  • Comprehensive exercises to support integration across sections

This stage is designed to:

  • Tackle difficult and tricky questions

  • Improve answering speed

  • Build logical and strategic thinking skills

All practice is done under timed conditions to simulate the real test environment.

Participants will take multiple full-length ACT mock tests to measure progress and readiness.

This includes:

  • Time and energy management techniques

  • Personalized error review

  • Tips to boost your Writing score (if taken)

This Program is Ideal For:

  • High school students planning to study in the U.S.

What is the cost of the ACT test?

The cost to take the ACT test varies depending on several factors. There is a basic registration fee for the ACT without the Writing section (essay). If you opt to take the ACT with Writing, there will be an additional fee.

Furthermore, for students registering from outside the United States (international registrants), there is usually an additional international registration fee (non-U.S. regional fee). Other potential fees include a late registration fee, fees for changing test dates or locations, fees for sending additional score reports to more colleges, or fees for viewing your score details (Test Information Release, if available for your test date). For the most accurate, up-to-date, and relevant fee information for your situation (whether you are registering as a US domestic or international student, and whether you are taking the Writing section), it is crucial to visit the official ACT website at www.act.org. Fee details are typically available in the test registration section.

The ACT test is administered at official test centers approved by ACT, Inc. In the United States, these test centers are often located at high schools or colleges. For international students, including those in Indonesia, the ACT test is also administered at official test centers. These locations are typically international schools or other educational institutions that have met ACT’s requirements to become a test center. The number of international test centers may be more limited compared to the US.

You can search for the nearest ACT test center, both in the US and internationally, by using the test center locator tool available on the official ACT website (www.act.org) when you go through the registration process. It is important to choose an officially accredited test center.

The ACT test is offered several times a year. In the United States, tests are usually held in September, October, December, February, April, June, and July. For international students, ACT test schedules may differ slightly and be less frequent. Typically, international ACT tests are offered approximately five to six times a year, often in February, April, June/July, September, and October/December.

Exact dates for each test administration, along with regular and late registration deadlines, are announced well in advance on the official ACT website (www.act.org). You can view the international test calendar and choose the date that best suits your preparation schedule and college application deadlines. Since slots at international test centers can be limited, it is advisable to register as early as possible.

Technically, your ACT score does not have an official expiration date set by ACT, Inc. This means that ACT will keep records of your score indefinitely, and you can request it to be sent to colleges at any time.

However, most colleges and universities in the United States have their own policies regarding the age limit of the ACT scores they accept. Generally, colleges prefer scores taken within the last 3 to 5 years. They believe that more recent scores more accurately reflect your current academic abilities. If your score is older than 5 years, some colleges may still accept it, but others might ask you to retake the test or provide additional justification. Therefore, it is crucial to always check the specific requirements of each college you are interested in regarding their ACT score acceptance policies, including the age limit for acceptable scores.

The ACT test is designed to measure the academic readiness of high school students for college-level study. It consists of four mandatory multiple-choice sections, plus an optional Writing section (essay):

English: This section tests your understanding of standard English usage, including grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, rhetoric, and organization of writing. You will read several passages and answer questions about underlined portions or about the text as a whole.

Mathematics: This section measures mathematical abilities typically learned up to the end of 11th or beginning of 12th grade in high school. Topics include pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and basic trigonometry. You are allowed to use a calculator for the entire Mathematics section.

Reading: This section assesses your ability to read and understand long and complex texts similar to those you will encounter in college. Texts are drawn from four areas: prose fiction/literary narrative, social science, humanities, and natural science.

Science: This section does not primarily test specific knowledge of scientific facts, but rather your ability to interpret, analyze, evaluate, and solve problems using scientific data presented in text, graphs, tables, and diagrams. Texts cover biology, chemistry, physics, and earth/space science.

Writing (Optional): If you choose to take the Writing section, you will be asked to write an essay in response to a given issue. You will be provided with three different perspectives on the issue and asked to analyze those perspectives, state your own perspective, and explain the relationship between your perspective and the given perspectives.

Some colleges require or recommend the Writing section, so be sure to check the requirements of the institutions you are applying to.

Ultimate Education can help you prepare comprehensively for the ACT test through our structured and customized tutoring programs. We focus on developing conceptual understanding for each test section (English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and Writing if taken), as well as effective test-taking strategies and good time management.

Our ACT course schedules are designed to be flexible to accommodate student needs, either through private sessions that can be fully customized to your schedule, or small group classes if available. For more information regarding the details of our ACT preparation programs, tutoring schedule availability, and course fee breakdown, we invite you to contact our education consulting team. Having a competitive ACT score provides several important benefits for students planning to pursue higher education, especially in the United States:

  • College Admissions: ACT scores are accepted by almost all four-year colleges and universities in the United States as part of the freshman admissions process. A good score can significantly increase your chances of admission to your chosen institution.

  • Alternative to SAT: The ACT offers an alternative for students besides the SAT test. Some students may find the ACT’s format or question types more aligned with their learning style and strengths compared to the SAT, or vice versa. Many colleges do not have a preference between the two tests and accept both equally.

  • Assessment of Academic Readiness: The ACT test is designed to measure academic knowledge and skills that high school students have acquired and that are important for success at the college level. Your score provides admissions committees with an insight into your readiness.

  • Scholarship Opportunities: Many colleges and private organizations offer merit-based scholarships where one of the criteria is the ACT score. A high score can open doors to significant financial aid.

  • Course Placement: Some colleges may use ACT scores (especially subject scores like Math or English) to help determine appropriate placement for students in entry-level courses.

  • Skill Development: The process of studying for the ACT can help strengthen your understanding of core subjects and develop critical thinking skills.

The best way to familiarize yourself with the format, question types, and difficulty level of the ACT test is by using official practice resources provided by ACT, Inc.:

  • Official ACT Website (www.act.org): This site is your primary resource. There you can find:

    • Free Sample Questions: ACT provides sample questions for each test section (English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing) to give you an idea.

    • “Preparing for the ACT Test”: This is a free downloadable preparation guide containing complete test information, strategy tips, and a full-length practice test with answer keys.

    • ACT Academy™: This is a free online learning platform provided by ACT, offering instructional videos, practice questions, and diagnostic tests to help you prepare.

    • The Official ACT Prep Guide: This book is published by ACT and contains several full-length practice tests taken from past ACT exams, along with detailed answer explanations and strategy tips. It is a very valuable resource for intensive practice.

    • ACT Online Prep™ (Paid): ACT also offers a paid online preparation program that provides more practice questions and adaptive features.

Ultimate Education, in its tutoring programs, also uses representative practice questions aligned with the ACT format, including those from official sources, to ensure your preparation is effective.

In Ultimate Education’s ACT preparation tutoring program, we utilize various media to support an effective and engaging learning process:

  • Online (Virtual) Sessions: For maximum flexibility, most of our tutoring sessions can be conducted online via interactive video conferencing platforms such as Google Meet or Zoom. This allows for virtual face-to-face sessions with tutors, in-depth discussions, screen sharing for collaborative problem-solving, and the use of digital whiteboards.

  • Offline (In-person) Sessions: Depending on availability and agreement, in-person tutoring sessions can also be arranged at a convenient location, allowing for more direct personal interaction.

  • Digital Learning Materials: We provide access to digital course modules, e-books, comprehensive practice question banks, material presentations, and links to relevant and high-quality online resources.

  • Practice Tests and Simulations: We use full-length practice tests and questions from official ACT sources to familiarize students with the actual test format, time limits, and difficulty level.

  • Individual Feedback: Our tutors will provide detailed feedback on students’ work, both for practice questions and essays (if taking the Writing section), to help identify areas of strength and weakness.

At Ultimate Education, we deeply understand that the relationship and match between a student and a tutor play a crucial role in the success of the learning process, especially for the preparation of an important test like the ACT. While our current system does not explicitly provide a feature for students to directly choose a specific tutor from a list, we are highly committed to matching you with the tutor who best suits your needs.

Our ACT tutor team consists of experienced educators who have a deep mastery of the material for all sections of the ACT test and are skilled at delivering effective teaching strategies. When you register, we will conduct a consultation to understand your target score, your learning style, the areas that need the most help, and your schedule preferences. Based on this comprehensive information, we will assign a tutor whom we believe has the expertise and approach most suitable to guide you towards achieving your ACT target score. We are always open to discussing your preferences in this matching process.
