PRE-WORK: Diagnostic Test & Personalized Study Plan
Before commencing the course, each student will undergo a comprehensive diagnostic assessment that evaluates their current Indonesian language proficiency based on the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI) for BIPA, ranging from beginner (A1) to advanced (C2) levels.
This assessment covers evaluation of four core language skills – listening, speaking, reading, and writing – as well as understanding of basic grammar, vocabulary, and Indonesian cultural aspects. Based on the diagnostic results, experienced BIPA instructors will develop an individualized learning plan tailored to each student’s learning objectives (academic, professional, or socio-cultural), native language background, preferred learning style, and target proficiency level they aim to achieve within a specific timeframe, complete with clear milestones and regular evaluations to monitor learning progress throughout the program.

Students will gain comprehensive understanding of Indonesian language structure as an agglutinative language with rich morphological system, including word formation through affixation (prefixes, suffixes, infixes, circumfixes), reduplication, and word composition.
The program provides systematic explanation of Indonesian sentence patterns (SVO – Subject Verb Object), sentence types (simple, compound coordinate, compound complex), usage of function words (prepositions, conjunctions, particles), and language register variations from informal to formal academic style. Students will also understand the BIPA assessment system that references the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and national standards, including evaluation criteria for each language skill, communicative competency assessment rubrics, and proficiency indicators for each level that will help students prepare for official BIPA certification examinations.

Ultimate Education offers the BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers) program in several levels, aligned with international language proficiency standards, generally based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and adapted for BIPA. The levels include:

  • BIPA 1 (Beginner / A1–A2): Focus on basic daily conversations, essential vocabulary, fundamental grammar, and understanding simple instructions.

  • BIPA 3 (Intermediate / B1–B2): Improvement in speaking fluency, comprehension of more complex texts, participation in discussions on general topics, and writing simple essays or reports.

  • BIPA 4 (Upper-Intermediate / B2–C1): Ability to discuss a wide range of diverse and abstract topics, comprehension of authentic texts (such as news and articles), and producing more structured writing.

  • BIPA 5 (Advanced / C1–C2): Fluent and accurate use of the language in nearly all situations, deeper understanding of linguistic nuances, and the ability to produce detailed and complex written work.

Level placement will be determined through an initial placement test or consultation to ensure students are matched with the right starting point.

The BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers) course at Ultimate Education covers the four core language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) along with essential linguistic and cultural aspects. The learning materials include:

  • Grammar (Tata Bahasa): Sentence structures, affixation (prefixes, suffixes, infixes), word classes, and other grammar rules relevant to each level.

  • Vocabulary (Kosakata): Thematic vocabulary for various situations (family, work, hobbies, food, travel), including common idiomatic expressions.

  • Conversation (Percakapan): Dialogue practice, role-plays, and group discussions to improve fluency and speaking confidence.

  • Listening Comprehension (Pemahaman Mendengarkan): Exercises to understand conversations, news, announcements, or presentations in Indonesian.

  • Reading Comprehension (Pemahaman Membaca): Training to comprehend different types of texts, from short passages and articles to simplified literary works (for advanced levels).

  • Writing (Menulis): Practice in writing sentences, paragraphs, letters/emails, essays, and reports, depending on the student’s level.

  • Indonesian Culture (Pengenalan Budaya Indonesia): Exploration of cultural aspects, etiquette, traditions, and relevant social issues to support contextual understanding of the language.

This comprehensive curriculum ensures that students not only gain practical Indonesian language skills but also build a deeper connection with Indonesian culture, making communication more natural and effective.

  • Easier Adaptation: Helps foreigners adapt more smoothly while living in Indonesia, both in social interactions and daily activities.

  • Career and Business Opportunities: Expands career prospects for expatriates working in Indonesia or collaborating with Indonesian partners.

  • Access to Education: Meets language requirements for studying at Indonesian universities or academic institutions.

  • Deeper Cultural Understanding: Provides broader insights into the richness of Indonesian culture, traditions, and values.

  • Broader Social Interaction: Enables more meaningful and closer interactions with local communities.

  • Personal Development: Learning a new language enriches personal growth and enhances cognitive skills.

With these advantages, the BIPA program is not just about learning a language—it’s about building confidence, expanding opportunities, and connecting more deeply with life in Indonesia.

At Ultimate Education, the BIPA course applies a communicative and interactive teaching approach to ensure effective and engaging learning. Our methods include:

  • Focus on Communication: Encouraging students to actively use Bahasa Indonesia from the very beginning.

  • Task-Based Learning: Students learn through completing meaningful and practical communicative tasks.

  • Integrated Skills: Balanced integration of the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

  • Authentic Materials: Use of real-life resources (such as news articles, advertisements, and songs) to reflect everyday Indonesian language use.

  • Varied Activities: Engaging students in discussions, role plays, presentations, and group projects to keep learning dynamic.

  • Constructive Feedback: Providing regular, constructive feedback to help learners continuously improve their skills.

This student-centered and communicative methodology ensures that participants don’t just study grammar and vocabulary, but also gain the confidence to use Bahasa Indonesia effectively in real-life situations.

Yes. Upon completing each level of the BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers) course at Ultimate Education—while meeting the required attendance and evaluation criteria—participants will receive either a Certificate of Participation or a Certificate of Completion issued by Ultimate Education.

This certificate serves as official proof that you have successfully completed a Bahasa Indonesia learning program at a specific level. However, for nationally or internationally recognized proficiency certification, you may need to take a standardized exam such as the Uji Kemahiran Berbahasa Indonesia (UKBI).

At Ultimate Education, we prioritize both the quality of teaching and the compatibility between tutors and students’ learning needs. While our system does not currently allow students to directly select a specific tutor from a list, we have a thorough tutor placement process in place.

Our BIPA tutors are highly experienced Indonesian language instructors, many with academic backgrounds in BIPA education or Indonesian literature, and with a strong understanding of the challenges faced by foreign learners. Based on your level, learning goals, and scheduling preferences, we will carefully match you with the tutor best suited to support your progress.
